INDIANAPOLIS - When asked Friday just how many times he tested tires at Indianapolis Motor Speedway since last year, Matt Kenseth was rather sarcastic.

"20 or 30 times," answered Kenseth, though quickly admitting it was a handful of attempts that he made with the other Roush Fenway drivers before this weekend's Brickyard 400.

Their performance on Friday, however, might have made Kenseth's original number believable, as the tire wear problems that plagued practices and the race last year were non existant.

"If anyone has an issue with a tire its not because their wearing out," said Jeff Gordon after the practice sessions. "They've (Goodyear) have done a great job, they've backed it up in testing, and now they've proven it here at the racetrack."

No tire blowouts, no major shreds or rubber dust were left around the track in a relatively clean two hours of practice.

"The cars are getting around fine, no tire troubles," said Clint Bowyer after the final session of the day.

For those who've listed to recent driver comments, this is not a surprise, since Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman, and Tony Stewart all made 100 percent guarentees that their would be no repeat of the 2008 tire debacle. Michael Waltrip even went as far as to show IndySportsNation's Jeremiah Johnson the exact amout of the wear during his first racing session.

"That's about half a fuel run, and there is plenty of tire left," said Waltrip as he pointed to the tire.

Greg Biffle, however, was more restrained with his comments, saying the tires were good Friday, but were still a long way from Sunday.

"We'll have to wait and see what happy hour is like tomorrow," said Biffle of the tires. "That's really the test when we're running 10-12 laps at a time."
