CARMEL -
Confidence probably wasn't a problem for Carmel, in fact humility might have even been difficult.
They saw have Terre Haute North had 59 points put on them by Center Grove, 58 by Ben Davis, 73 by Warren Central, and then a conservative 48 against Lawrence North. The Greyhounds already have beaten three of those teams.
But with the fourth ahead next week-that being Ben Davis-Carmel quickly put to bed a notion of a letdown by keeping the current trend in motion against the Patriots, scoring 24 points in the first 15 minutes to race by Terre Haute North 51-0.

The win for Carmel keeps them as the lone undefeated in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference and they can clinch the title outright at Ben Davis next week.
Mo Moriarity and the Greyhounds made sure that their road to a potential conference championship matchup would be as smooth as possible, jumping out to an early first quarter lead which featured mostly a ground attack. Adam Shaffer and Damian Pennington each had touchdowns on the ground in the first quarter, as Carmel rushed for 98 yards in the first 12 minutes.
After a field goal at the beginning of the second quarter, Chase Varndell followed it up with an interception and touchdown to stretch the lead to 24-0 and open the floodgates for the Greyhounds and a rainy night on the north side.

The 51 point effort was the second most this season for Carmel, who put up 55 points against Terre Haute South in week four and the victory gives Carmel its seventh straight since an opening week loss to Cathedral.
With the victory Carmel clinches at least a share of the championship, since they've already beaten the two one-loss teams in the conference (Center Grove and Warren Central).
