GREENWOOD - A look at their last two week's would prove intimidating to most.

Next to Ben Davis' name in the last two wins has read "58" and "50"-as in the number of points they had in wins over Terre Haute North then Terre Haute South.

"I picked them at the beginning of the year to win the state and they still might," said Center Grove coach Eric Moore when talking the rival Giants.

On this night, however, his Trojans had an answer. The Center Grove defense only surrendered a first half touchdown to the high powered Giant offense, then pitched a shutout in the final 24 minutes to lock up a 27-7 win in Greenwood on Friday night. It gives the Trojans their fourth straight victory after a close loss to Carmel, taking sole possession of third place in the Metropolitan Interscholastic conference.

"Their tough every week," said running back Nolan Weidman of his defensive counterparts. "We rely on them a lot to just keep the offense off the field."

That's what the Trojan defense did especially in the second half, when the Trojans had the ball for around three-quarters of the third and fourth quarters.

"We just practiced our butts off, basically," said Center Grove senior strong safety Scott O'Brien simply of the adjustments made to the defense, which held Ben Davis to their second lowest point total of the season (South Bend Penn held the Giants to six in a one point Ben Davis loss in August)

It was O'Brien who had the biggest play of the half in the fourth quarter, when he leaped in front of a Giant receiver to pick off William Barksdale's pass to stop a drive that had crossed into Trojan territory.

"They've just been awesome and great," said Moore of the unit, which has held opponents to single digit points in four of their seven games this season. "Technically they make every play that we need to make, they tackle people, they swarm to the ball."

The offense, meanwhile, also had a bit of redemption after scoring just nine points the week before in a two point win at Lawrence North. Redemption came for the unit in the form of 13 first half points, and then touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters.

"We finally got our offense to start to click," said Weidman of the offense following last week's win over the Wildcats. "We just got more focused in practice this week
