What day is it? The Colts Monday Night game in Miami has my schedule off just a bit. Do not worry, Indysportsnation readers, Week 5 of the High School Football season is still fresh in my mind.
We are past the mid-way point of the regular season, and teams that are still perfect deserve special recognition. However, I'm guessing the coaches of each of Indiana's --- unbeaten teams would trade their 5-0 regular season start for five straight post-season victories. (The reward for that is a State Finals Appearance)

The High School Football Rewind will focus on five teams who are off to 5-0 starts.
* Monrovia Bulldogs: Perhaps the surprise of the season, Monrovia put together a very impressive performance in beating Speedway, a team that had previously been ranked #1 in Class 2A. You can't help but notice what the Bulldogs defense has done this season. They have pitched shutouts in 9 of their 10 halves of football. The Sparkplugs led 15-14 at the break Friday, but couldn't find the end zone in the second half. I was VERY impressed by the atmosphere in Monrovia, Bulldog fans have caught the high school football fever.
* Fishers Tigers: There has already been quite a bit written in this space and spoken on the Fox 59 Airwaves the last couple of seasons about Fishers. It will be very difficult for them to finish the regular season undefeated, but five up and five down for Rick Wimmer's team. Fishers took care of business Friday, 50 to 20 against Harrison, and they host the another Lafayette-area Hoosier Crossroads Conference school McCutcheon this week before a HUGE showdown against Zionsville October 2nd.
* Delta Eagles: Grant Zgunda is some kind of coach. He brought the Madison-Grant Argyles program to life in the mid-90's and has put together a dominant decade at Delta. (4 losses the last 5 regular seasons) The high-flying Eagles made quick work of arch Rival Yorktown on Friday, winning 56-13. The Hoosier Heritage Conference should once again be decided on in the final game of the regular season.
* Shelbyville Golden Bears: The other "perfect" team in the Hoosier Heritage Conference, Shelbyville boasts a winning margin of 26 points through five games. Pat Parks' club shutout Greenfield-Central 19-0 on Friday. Circle your calendar for October 16th when Shelbyville visits Delta. This COULD be the third straight season both teams bring undefeated records to the regular season finale.
* Lafayette Central Catholic Knights: Lafayette Central Catholic has been a major player in both girls basketball, boys basketball, and baseball since the advent of class sports. However, they haven't played for a football state title since 1999. This could be the year they return to the finals, and it might not even be close. LCC beat Carroll 62-0 Friday, they have scored at least 45 points in all five of their games, and should improve to 6-0 this week win they host 0-5 Tri-Central. With perennial small-school power Sheridan struggling, ( the Blackhawks won their first game Friday 47-13 vs Benton Central) the time is now for the Knights. Looking into the future, their toughest post-season match-up could very well be in Sectional 34 against fellow unbeaten Pioneer.
While many of the Central Indiana powers have slipped up once or twice this season, there are still 35 undefeated teams. This is a good time to recognize those schools, but don't forget about teams like Center Grove, Warren Central, Cathedral, and Carmel. I'm guessing when the calendar turns to November, we'll still be covering familiar faces on the Road to Lucas Oil Stadium.
Don't forget to watch Football Friday Night on Fox 59, 10:35 each week for highlights of 10+ area games, interviews with players and coaches, and the McAlister's Big Nasty Hit of the Week.
