As Perry Meridian Junior Logan Cooper stepped down from the first place podium with a blue ribbon and over-sized tournament bracket bearing his championship run through the 2010 IHSAA Wrestling Regional weight class of 215, the chants were being yelled in the distance.
"Cinderella! Cinderella! Cinderella!"
No Cooper had not wrestled Mount Vernon's Sam Balbach to a 13-8 decision in a pair of glass wrestling shoes, but the way Cooper's entire season has played out, it might be possible to think he could have done so.
"Winning today feels pretty good," said Cooper, who improved his 2009-10 individual record to 22-4, with a shocked expression on his face. "Beginning of the year I was just on JV, so today winning Regionals is great."
"I'm heading to Semi-State, and I never expected to go there."
Also joining Cooper from Perry Meridian at the New Castle Semi-State will be teammates Jared McKinley (112), Kirk Johnson (140), and Derek Harz (145).
Of the four Falcons Johnson may have had the hardest time advancing, as Pike Junior Kameron James practically ave the Sophomore everything he could handle. With just seconds left, Johnson had a 3-2 advantage over the Red Devil, before taking down James outside of the mat resulting into overtime.
But in the extra time Johnson would quickly be on the attack, quickly taking down James for the 4-3 decision.
"I just thought to myself that I am going to take him down now, and finish the match," said Johnson on his thoughts entering the extended championship.
