IndyCar Racing: The Target's Changed
HOMESTEAD, FLA - They've added a button, their thinking about wing adjustments, and considered modifications to engines.

The IndyCar series is doing what they can to make the races more exciting for the fans during the 2009 season. At the very least, they've produced an exciting ending.

When the series drivers pass the green flag for the final time in 2009, three drivers remain with in close range of a championship-with the top two reversing their roles from a close finish in 2007.

"It's simple man, you've got to go out and win," said Target Chip Ganassi driver Scott Dixon, who currently holds the lead heading into the series final race Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

His advantage, however, is a mere five points more than that of teammate and 2007 champion Dario Franchitti, who barely held on to the lead in the final race of the year over Dixon, who ran out of gas while in second place on the final lap.

Now its Franchitti who'll be doing the chasing this time in hopes for his second series championship after bouncing in and out of the lead since the beginning of the summer, while at the same time trying to give his teammate as much help as he can early on.

"As it comes down to the end, both of us we'll be gunning for it if we're in a position to win," said Franchitti. "But if there's any way we can help each other we will."

As the two target teammates battle at the top, Penske driver Ryan Briscoe sits in third place just eight points back of the lead. He was up by 25 points going into the second-to-last race of the season in Motegi but struggled to an 18th place finish.

"I'm extremely motivated," said Briscoe of racing for the title. "I'm sure they're (Dixon and Franchitti) will be working with each other but at the same time, they're racing against each other as well."

One variable in Briscoe's favor could be Helio Castroneves, who is fourth in the standings but out of the running for the championship. With Franchitti and Dixon having to worry about their own championship hopes while their keeping their obligations as teammates, Castroneves could afford to give more help to his competition.

"Helio's right out of the mix so he can maybe be more influence that Dario would be with me because we have set goals and we know what we need to achieve, and its different with Helio, " said Dixon of the teammates. "Hopefully it comes down to a clean race and all of us can fight it out at the end."
