IRL founder and former Indianapolis Motor Speedway CEO Tony George has shut down his IndyCar Series race team, the Indianapolis Star reported on its Web site.
George -- who created the Indy Racing League in 1996 in a split with the then-dominant CART -- would now appear to have no stake in the league or its premier product, the IndyCar Series, after shuttering Vision Racing. He formed the team in 2005.
